01History
A short history of the association
Organised rink hockey in the northern counties predates the association itself. Middlesbrough RHC was first formed in 1947, Grimsby RHC followed in 1973 and Sheffield Wildcats RHC in 1981. Regional tournaments ran informally for many years before a standing body was created to fix rules, keep a calendar and settle the arguments that every good sport generates.
The association in its present form was constituted to give the northern game a single voice within the national structure. Its clubs have competed at the top of the English game throughout, from the Roller Hockey Premier League to the Female Premier League. Between them they have produced a long line of England internationals at every age group.
The committee keeps a small archive of programmes, team sheets and photographs. If you have material from any era of the northern game the secretary would be glad to hear from you.
